Quakerism 101

UPDATE: See Latest Call for Presenters from Monthly Meetings
The LEYM Advancement & Outreach Committee (A&O) is pleased to announce an interactive Quakerism 101 monthly series beginning on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, from 7:00-8:30pm exclusively on-line. Get the Announcement Flyer here.
The series will run October 2023-May 2024, except December, and is open to all via a Zoom connection. North Columbus Friends Meeting will present the first two sessions, following a format they have used with success since 2021. Beginning in January, other LEYM member meetings/worship groups are invited to lead one of the monthly sessions, presenting a topic of their choice. Broadmead Friends will host Lucretia Mott after the new year!
The A&O Committee and North Columbus Friends hope these gatherings will become a collaborative undertaking across LEYM. We envision Quakerism 101 as a format for Friends to bring their experiences and wisdom as gifts to serve our yearly meeting. Various styles of presentation are welcome, including power points, small groups, and Q and A sessions that engage those attending.
All LEYM Friends are invited to participate virtually in Quakerism 101 on the following dates:
- Oct 17 (Tues): What is Quakerism? 7:00-8:30
- Nov 14 (Tues): What is Vocal Ministry in a Meeting for Worship? 7:00-8:30
Note: Zoom address (easy share link) for all sessions: https://tinyurl.com/quaker101
Meeting ID: 876 3794 4768
Passcode: 84448
Both new and seasoned Friends, teens and adults, can connect at these gatherings as we share and explore our knowledge, understandings, and questions about the Society of Friends. Each session will have discussions and activities for everyone regardless of past experience or knowledge. There’s always something to learn, even if you’ve been attending Meeting weekly for a while, if you are brand new, or are interested in Quakerism from an academic viewpoint. This version of Quakerism 101, pioneered by North Columbus (OH) Friends Meeting, is designed to broaden approach-ability and encourage interactions between attenders. Friends familiar with previous Quakerism 101 experience can expect this to feel familiar yet different, with more activity and less focused on worship sharing.
The A&O Committee is excited to welcome the entire Lake Erie Yearly Meeting into an experience Columbus Friends have found to be deeply rewarding. We look forward to seeing many of you on Zoom each month!
