We are seeking candidates with strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and an experimental attitude towards technology grounded in a basic comfort level with these tools.  Ideal candidates will have some experience with Quakers or a comfort with basic Quaker faith and practice.

This is a year-long paid position with benefits.  Upon completion, a successful intern will be qualified for many entry level positions in non-profit communications and web consulting with Drupal.  The start date for this position is anticipated to be late June or early July.

Rediscovering the Quaker Way of Gospel Nonviolence

Facilitated by John Humphries and Noah Baker Merrill

April 26-28, 2013

The recent Occupy movement has evoked comparisons with previous nonviolent movements for social and economic reform, including those led by Martin Luther King, Jr., and Mohandas Gandhi. King and Gandhi – like the early Quakers – drew inspiration for nonviolent witness from the provocative words and deeds of Jesus, as recorded in the Gospels. During this weekend we will explore the integration of Quaker spirituality and nonviolent witness. What is the resonance among the Lamb’s War, as pursued by first-generation Friends, and modern nonviolent movements? What wisdom and inspiration can we draw from that resonance as we seek to heed God’s call to transformation in our own lives and communities? How do we nourish, guide and support Friends (individuals and groups) who are feeling called to lead lives marked by more vigorous outward witness? How can we ground our social witness in Christian principles and Christ’s immediate guidance?

A Gathering for Friends in the Ministry

“It is a living ministry that begets a living people.” Friends who are under a sustained call to the gospel ministry are invited to meet for mutual refreshment, encouragement, and instruction. Our time together will include open worship, and also structured conversation about challenges that arise today in the life of our Meetings and of those who seek to serve that life under the guidance of Christ.

Friends who have not attended a previous Friends Center weekend in this series are asked to include with their registration request a description of their particular gift, how they have come to recognize it, how they exercise it, and what accountability they have for their gift to their Meeting, another group, and/or another individual.
